Why I Wrote This Book

We wrote The Letter E because so many children live with undiagnosed vision conditions and invisible disabilities that others may not immediately understand. I know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel when life suddenly looks different than you expected. After being diagnosed with Stargardt’s Macular Degeneration at a young age, I experienced moments of fear, uncertainty, and self doubt, but I also discovered strength I did not know I had. Through Grace’s journey, we hope children and families feel seen, understood, and encouraged to keep moving forward with courage, faith, and hope, even when the road ahead looks different than they imagined.

Our hope is that this story helps:
• Children feel seen and understood
• Families feel less alone
• Teachers and providers gain awareness
• Readers develop compassion for those living with disabilities
• Kids discover that their differences can become part of their purpose

This book is more than a story about vision loss. It is a story about courage, identity, faith, perseverance, and learning to shine exactly as God created you to be.
